Coral Seas

Completed: March 2008

Pattern: Emerald Seas, Knitty Summer 2007, by Hilary Engebretson

Yarn: Tahki Cotton Classic #7423 (100% mercerized cotton), 5 x 108yd/skein

I was worried about using this yarn when I saw how many dishcloths were made from it. But as it turns out, the fabric is soft, comfortable, and pretty light. The yarn is pretty unforgiving, though, in that it really shows off the unevenness of my stitches. But that's my fault, not the yarn's.

Notes:
-The number of stitches to cast on for the back may be wrong for all but the smallest size. I think you need to have a multiple of 5+3 in order to maintain the 3x2 rib. You could also cast on a multiple of 5+1 and do a k2 on both edges. That way, when you sew it up with the front, using one of those knit stiches for the seam allowance, it will maintain the 3x2 ribbing all the way around

-If I were to make this again, I'd either do more stitch decreases after the ribbing section and/or transition to a size 5 or 6 needle first to avoid the bulge I got at the bottom part of the stockinette section

-It would have been more flattering on me if I had done more decreases at the armhole

-Had to bind off very tightly across the top to prevent gaping in the front and back. The size I chose gives 1" of negative ease at the bust, but maybe I should have chosen one more size down.

Absolutely gorgeous! I esp love the ribbon, genius idea and the color. Very complimentary to the skin :)
