Cropped Cardi

Completed: December 2007

Pattern: Inspired by Juliet, by Zephyrstyle

Yarn: Jaeger Extra Fine Merino Chunky (100% wool), 7 x 50g balls (66yds each)

Notes: I really liked the pics I was seeing of other people's finished Juliet cardigans. I didn't get the pattern, though, because I decided I could figure out the top part by myself and just pick a lace pattern for the bottom. Also, for my body, I knew I'd have to make some adjustments since the flared styles that are showing up everywhere really just don't look that good on me. So here's what I did...

  • Knit top down, with raglan increases to the armhole section, and then did a couple of decreases after the bust
  • Used the lace pattern from The New Knitting Stitch Library, #194
  • Put the transition point between garter stitch and lace under the bust, rather than in the middle of it
  • Added sleeves

I had problems with the weight of the yarn dragging things down and causing sagginess initially that I didn't like, so I held my breath and felted it. Just a little. And now I like it! Even though it's not as soft now, it's much more wearable for me.
